"Presence" instead of presents

When V and I got married, we decided to request guests to honor us with their presence rather than with expensive presents. If they insisted of giving us something with a $$ value, then we requested that they donate to a charity of their choice. I am glad to see the trend catching on...

This is a nice reminder for all bay area parents with high-tech jobs and high-income friends that they need not exchange gifts at each others special events to prove anything! When V and I attended a birthday party for a friend's kid recently we went with an online donation at "Doctors without borders". I think it was pretty well-received.
